PUC Serves Thousands of Patients In India

In only a week, faculty and students from Pacific Union College and health professionals served over 3,000 patients in India. Professor of Biology Dr. Backil Sung planned this mission trip to Falakata, India. From July 10-21, the goals were to treat patients with health issues, introduce Jesus’ love, and for students and volunteers to learn how to practice God’s command to love others.

PUC's Biology Department Awarded Over $300K For Study & Outreach

Pacific Union College Professors Drs. Scott Butterfield and Floyd Hayes from the biology department were awarded two grants totaling over $300k from the Blue Ribbon Committee for the Rehabilitation of Clear Lake and the National Audubon Society's Audubon in Action program to develop a monitoring program for grebes, a bioindicator of ecosystem health, at Clear Lake. With this project, they will collaborate with partners from the Redbud Audubon Society, Upper Lake High School, Lower Lake High School, Robinson Rancheria Environmental Center, Big Valley Band of Pomo Indians, and Lake County.

Q&A with Milbert Mariano: Dean of Arts, Humanities, & Professions

Milbert Mariano is well-known to the PUC campus and community. He has been working at PUC for 28 years- starting as a professor of graphic design in the visual arts department, then moving on to being academic dean, and now dean of arts, humanities, and professions. He administers nine academic departments within the Arts (Music and Visual Arts), Humanities (Communication & World Languages, English, History, and Theology), and Professions (Aviation, Business, and Education), as well as direct the Honors Program. He also collaborates with faculty in maintaining and designing classroom spaces and curricula through strategy and planning.

Faculty Feature: Hayley Perry

Hayley Perry is a PUC alum who has held several titles at the college since 2021. She started as an Academic Mentor in the Student Success Center, helping students who struggle academically. Then, she taught a few sections of ENGL 101 and 102, was a Faculty Advisor for the Campus Chronicle, and now is a half-time faculty in the communication department teaching Copyediting II and COMM 105 (Comm and Public Speaking).

Faculty Feature: Niq Ruud

Since winter quarter of 2022, Niq Ruud has been PUC’s director of student involvement– a role he has had to manage student organizations and clubs, the Student Association, and the Campus Center, along with facilitating various campus events and activities, community service opportunities, and new student orientation, among other things. He started teaching as an adjunct in the fall of 2022, which led to him becoming an assistant professor of history, a role which he began full-time in July of this year.

Theology Student Shares Program Experience

Mackenzie Wheeler majored in religion after knowing her love for God and working with Pathfinder kids. Being a theology student at PUC, she appreciates the help her professors and academic advisors give. Mackenzie learned from the theology program that no matter what major, whether religion or theology, ministry can be done by all.
